Explaining music tastes
I've had some interesting times trying to answer the question
"so what kinda music you into ?"
An im sick n fuckin tired of havin to try n explain myself, i tend to find when you answer "breakcore" people usually look at you as if you just fell out of a tree (which sometimes i like 2 be honest) On the occasions where i have tried to explain wht it is i end up jabbering on about how its a sub culture with influences from drum & bass/gabba/hardcore/metal/ragga etc which confuses things no end! but now i jus say electronic or techno as this kinda covers the whole spectrum. Anyone else have similar frustrations?

Most of the time it is rather frustrating to have to explain music genres but its always satisfying when after you've finished explaining what you like the other person says "me too". It usually leads to hours and hours of good conversation, at least from what i've experienced.

I usually reply to broad questions with equally broad answers. My standard answer to "what sort of music do you like?" is "anything with talent". True, yet not very satisfactory. However, my tastes change so rapidly, it's probably the most accurate answer.

I would probably just reply "electronic stuff" or something. Most people go straight to "Oh, like techno?" with that though.
It's definitely hard to explain some genres though - easier to just say "I like heavy metal" than "I like brutal blackdeathgrind".
And if that isn't a subgenre already, it should be.

I say i listen to breakcore, they say; oh there is breakcore now too.
Weird, i don't try to explain it too them, i just put it on, and most people leave, but some of my friends are forcefully begining to like it.

This happens to me all the time. I used to get so frustrated with trying to explain myself so i jumped on the electronic bandwagon too. However, this is really a recent thing i say especially as my preferred style is Speedcore, closely followed by Breakcore, so i always tried to explain that.
The worst one has got to be after you've given your answer & you ask them what music they prefer and they come back with the gem..
"Oh, i like everything".
What, how can you possibly like every kind of music. It's not possible. It's usually these types that when you show them some Breakcore, they run a fuckin mile.

What music do you like?
"Pretentious shit"
Saves me a shed load of trouble trying to explain to them what Breakcore is.
The Pendulum remark is so true, if I had a pound for every time someone said they're well in to dnb because they like two pendulum songs and three prodigy songs, i'd have about 74 pounds by now.

I really try and avoid the subject of music with alot of people. It almost borders on talkin about religion to somebody.
