Aaron Spectre or Drumcorps...
Which do you prefer?
I'm just listening to my Grist album & i really like it but can't decide whether i'd book Aaron as drumcorps or not.
What would you rather see?

eh, I had the pleasure of playing host to aaron last year during sxsw here in austin and he played a house party we put together as aaron spectre. he basically did more of a jungle set with his midi controllers. then the following evening, he did a drumcorps showcase for sxsw which imo, was way cooler.
I dont think it's a niche, I think it's a pretty original performance actually. I'm not sure there's anyone else really doing what he's doing.
it really just depends on if you want a jungle dj set, or a hardcore/metal performance at your event.

Apparently, according to his blog anyways, Aaron wont be doing very many jungle sets anymore as he wants to concentrate this year on ambient stuff and Drumcorps. I think he wrote that Bangface and a few slect other shows will be jungle, but not many......
Drumcorps is the best think ive heard to do with heavy music for YEARS, whilst Aaron Spectre jungle/breakcore/dubstep sets simply kick serious ass. I prefer Aaron Spectre, tho the Wood 3 Drumcorps set is my favourite blend of the 2. That PowerPill Pacman mix to start is just excellent.

I'd book Drumcorps BECAUSE it's a niche, not in spite of it. Lots of people can do a jungle/raggacore style set (granted, a lot of them not as well as Aaron Spectre) but there are few who can match Drumcorps for sound and performance. From the videos I've seen, the closest you can get to the same amount of mentalness would be Eustachian.

Hey i don't think there's anything wrong with Drumcorps being a niche, personally i prefer his style.
Just wanted opinions on it.
I think his Drumcorps sets don't get booked enough so i personally would have him play that. It's more energetic, involved & i like that kind of sound.
However, wenever i speak to people about it they seem to request Spectre more.

aww thanks.. hopefully in this next year we can finally do our full set-up for gigs.. Me on drums/effects/vox and john on guitar/effects/vox..
having seen both last year within the space of a couple days (first in my living room as Aaron Spectre, then at his Drumcorps SXSW performance), I have to say I liked both performances fairly equally.
The Drumcorps performance is a little more impressive to watch, though. I do hope that the next time I get to see him do a Drumcorps show the sound is up to the task. When he played here last year, the club's sound just didn't have the balls or low end response to really make me feel the music.

Drumcorps, a bit biased though, as iv seen Spectre twice and have yet to see a full Drumcorps set live. Altho when i seen him booked under Spectre the first time, towards the end of his set he did play alot of tunes from his Grist album..
