most versatile? yeah, I'd maybe say that... but all by itself, the most powerful? nah.

There are better drummers than Vinnie Paul, dude.
define "better". in terms of playing thrash metal, he's one of the best. In addition, how is saying there are better drummers in a dismissive tone really addressing his statement at all? it's just blowin' out some 'tude if you ask me.
I'm sure if you were standing right next to vinnie paul playing drums, your ears would be ringing. Guy plays with marching sticks. I'm not saying I think he's the greatest drummer in the world or anything like that, I just found it odd that you found his statement worthy of a dismissive retort. technical ability doesn't always equal creativity. mind you, I take a lot of pride in my own technical ability when it comes to manipulating a pair of drumsticks...who would you consider a "worthy" drummer to complete his statement?
classifying artists as "better" and "worse" shows an attitude that the quality of music is an objective quantity. music is an art, not a competitive sport. you may like or dislike something, but that doesn't really mean shit in the grand scheme of whether or not it actually has objective merit.
I know this is a long rant, it's just that jadedness doesn't really impress me at all when it comes to music. a lot of this rant is geared toward the notes on breakcore thread, where people were complaining about the proliferation of internet bedroom producers, and insinuating that this percieved lack of "quality" is "killing" breakcore. BULLSHIT. As I stated in that thread, there's always been crap music, the only thing that has changed is the level of access that beginners have to distributing the sounds they make to a wider audience. nobody's forcing you to download or listen to music you hate. if anything's gonna kill breakcore, it's gonna be a creative stifling and limiting of the genre due to the same kind of jaded self-referential limited attitude that killed jungle.

im pretty gay for lynn farmer or dave lombardo
powerful is a pretty subjective term tho.
are we talking how much they can bench press, ass fuck or how loud they play,,,,
or in reality are we talking about skill.
*derp oh right were talking about breaks not drums, my vote is for the johnny jump up thats been popularized in tunes like klute - glue sniffer
**derp derp some thinking reveals that the break in meat beat manifesto - where are you (which was also played by lynn farmer) is like an amen but tougher. perhaps after coffee ill rethink and edit again?@?

you can't say something like that and not have any names to drop. I know there are better drummers out there, but I happen to appreciate the way the guy plays.
