Unfair voting...

Postby JohnMerrik » Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:14 pm

There appears to be some unfair voting... this is against the contest terms as stated here : Contest Terms/Rules

should we delete the unfair votes and recalculate them?
what do you think?

I haven't looked yet. Is someone dishing out 1's or voting for themselves?

I haven't been here that long. But I don't think we should disqualify someone because of their opinion.

But that's just me.

^We're talking about people cheating the system; not just voicing their opinions on what tracks they like most.

I don't think the artist(s) receiving unfair votes should be disqualified, though. There's no way to know if they had anything to do with the votes or not -- is there?

Voting for yourself is perfectly acceptable.. Its the other thing...

and no xTxRxAxVxIxSx im not going to disqualify the other contestants... just wondering if i should delete the unfair votes and recalcualte them.

and moviejim50 if you are curious, I don't think in this case it is a "matter of opinion" all the votes took place within an amount of time making it impossible for them to have been listened too...

i haven't voted yet but the that tracks i listened to so far sounded good, i'd be surprised to find out that any of them received a "1" vote

Unless they listened to them earlier...made their assumption...and then voted. That is a possibility...

I know I didn't vote DIRECTLY after hearing a track. I downloaded and let it soak in for a little while, then I voted.

Ohh I know, I am the same way... But what makes it suspicious is that the user who voted the ones for all tracks (except their own) the same ip has been used to cast votes from 2 other usernames who voted differently for all the other tracks.

Why not just remove all of those votes? Or are others abusing also?

Im going to change the system to only one vote per ip/one submission per ip as well... However... I just want to see what everyone else thinks.

I believe that the whole contest voting system is wrong

we shouldn't be able to hear nor rate the songs until the contest submission period is over.

Then there would be a vote period.

maybe this kind of system would be interesting: http://www.renoise.com/beatbattle5/

IP banning or such things based on 1/IP can be "dangerous" and affecting innocent people, cause there are perfectly good reasons why different people can have the same IP after a short time period or even at the same time, eg behind same proxy, eg companies, dynip (from a small pool) refreshing where people get other peoples IP after a time, etc. Chances are probably not that high, but cant be ruled out.

Actually I was planning on changing it to a very similar type of system after this contest. you will still be able to see how many people have submitted, perhaps who has submitted... but not be able to listen to the tracks, or vote on them until the contest is at the "voting period"

A couple people have suggested this, and I think it is a good idea. (hopefully) I should have it working that way by next contest!
