Very interesting technique indeed.
About the hardware synths, (to Stazma)
I've used the SH-101 quite some times, it's not very complex but it sounds very thick and full, perfect for jungle bass and such, also for nostalgic lead sounds. Maybe get a midi kit if you're not into playing your instrument, apart from that, if you go out for a new synth, also consider the Moog MG-1.
It's a bit warmer then the SH-101, quite similar, not saying that it's perse better instrument, but it's about in the same range as the SH-101, so it's worth checking in to.
When I resample my basslines, I usually use this technique:
I start out with, for instance my juno, I create a midi instrument in renoise and make a simple sequence, now the juno is getting sequenced. I build a sound which sounds pretty rough, deep. No EQ is applyed, yet.
Now I usually put in a simple break to check how it whould sound in my mix.
When I'm satisfied with the basic sound I run it trough my analog EQ for some extra harmonics in the sound. Usually boosting the bass slightly, if the bass is loud enough, I usually cut the highs a little bit, little dip at the 200-400 HZ.
Get your sequence as you want it to be, and record your sound quite some times.
Now when the bass drops in the song, simply use the first line you've used.
Now resample this line, and crossfade it after a few seconds in a new track, crossfading the old bass sound in the new one.
You can now add effects making it evolve, like a chorus, distortion/filter that kind of stuff. When you're satisfied resample it again, go to the same processing proces. Keep doing this for a while and you'll be able to run your bass in different effects making it morph in to a new sound.
Will sound a lot more diverse.
When you completely build your own bassline, a good idea is to (on the bus of your bass) cut the low frequencies and create a new track adding the old bass sound, cut the high frequency's and you'll be able to mix the sub apart from the rest so the sound will sound even more morphed with the bass sound yet offering control over your lows appart from your highs.

Record yourself puking into a bucket. Distort it. Chop it up. Also pitch envelopes. And 09xx.
For extra badass, do the same but with a recording of your taco shits.

Some more tips:
Making a jungle type bass in Massive (old school renegade with a twist)
Open up (your cracked version of) Massive. Make the first osc a sine/triangle
Drag the wavetable to sine.
Then make osc 2 a saw.
Osc 3 can be whatever the fuck you want, i recomend Scrapyard.
Now detune the first osc to -30. Apply a daft filter and put some lfo on the cutoff. Play with the cutoff til you get that dark sound. Now you can apply distortion, more filters (i recomend a bandpass with lfo, makes shit crazy)
You can also play with the modulation, makes the sound more fucked upped. When sidechained to a gabberkick, this one really stands out!

Absolutely, we're all learning. That's the benefit of going on a "quiet" forum, especially a forum based on an art form, less users, therefore less users more apt to criticize others based on what they know or don't know.
