First Piece of Hardware

Postby Zwaken » Thu Dec 09, 2010 1:31 pm

I'm thinking about getting a piece of hardware for making Breakcore for Christmas, and I don't really know what to get. It'll be my first piece of equipment, so I want something that isn't ridiculously hard to figure out. All I have right now is Fruity Loops and some other Software.

Please help out! Thanks.

Is there a specific model you would suggest?

I decided to get a Novation Remote 37 SL. I found one on eBay for about $150, so I jumped on it.

I'm not sure when it'll ship or when I'll be able to use it because I'm going out of town for a while, but when I have the time to get familiar with it, I'll tell you all about it :)

fack the remote sl. bought it, returned it!
it comes with automap software, and i think it's special designed for
nerd's and geeks around the world and beyond (like alot of you guys 8) ).
i'm the neanthertaler at music, very primitive. i would turn a knob rather out of curiousity than actually knowing what i'm doing.
so my opinion: it sucks.

 any one here on the forum that played with the kaosilator?
do you think it's worth it's money? likes? dislikes?

i have a kp3 that i got for £120 thing is a beast if you can get it cheap jump on it, as to the korg stuff they are pretty limited because they are so cheap, honestly would recommended if you are serious about hardware saving your cash and buying something abit more expensive but lots better, like the korg micro isnt much cheaper than the autria minibrute but the minibrute is a monster and the korg is abit like a free plugin in hardware form, just my opinion but ive had alot of these products

I'd sort of agree with that. I don't have a microkorg but I have an akai miniak which from what I gather is similar, but multitumbral. The minibrute is awesome cos everything has a dedicated control, lots of knob twisting fun! But no presets, it has limited sound sculpting options and Its monophonic. The miniak is great too, polyphonic, can play several patches at once, has a programmable drum track and a fairly wide range of sound creation options for the incredibly low price I payed (though the options are still comparable to a free vst!), but bugger all controls! It takes hours to make a patch because you have to dive through menus, largely using 1 knob! The minibrute is more fun in that respect. If you put in the work though, you can get some great sounds out of the miniak.

For a first synth purchase, I guess I'd probably recomend neither!

I reckon the bass station 2 would be a better buy than the minibrute unless you specifically want CV, though I haven't played one
