No offence...
You are, however, coming from a rather privileged position in that you are Dutch and can therefore speak languages other than your own. If English wasn't a dominant language and we hadn't already kicked half the world in the face over the last few centuries, we would never get off this island! I can probably count the amount of people I know in England who can speak a second language fluently on one hand.

ah, well get your point silent, you ALWYS MAKE VERY VALID ONES, but you know, IF.. IF..., it didnt happen, i know what you mean, a small wrinkle in the fabric of time and whe would be all learning french...
. Heck maybe in another reality whe would all be speaking dutch..
I know im pretty happy to know my way around the english language.
Shit didnt happen through my educational system though, learned everything myself.(watching bbc news and everything)
I think we dutch are fucked though, we have to learn so much stupid languages, German, French, English.
Never payed any attention in any mandatory languages though, when something is forced upon me i tend to not listen...

That's the problem. The only way to learn languages in the UK is through school and the teaching over here is done in such a regimented way that everyone loses interest once they've worked out the swear words. Count yourself lucky.
