Super Fast Breaks
Could somone please tell me how I can get an acoustic break up to 260 bpm without it sounding shit like aaron funk (venetian snares) does. Do I pitch shift it? if so what software should i use?

well, 260bpm is a little too fast to use a break. i think the fastest vsnares has done is about 240. but what you do is pitch shift it a little, and then timestretch it. I use audition to resample (shifts the pitch + playback speed and preserves quality), and then zero-x beat creator to slice the break up into the component hits all of which it time stretches individually.
that's the key when timestretching - you can't just select the loop and stretch the whole thing cos it will cut off the attacks and sound like shit.

thanks, just remembered the hitpoint slicer in cubase! mutant cunt sniffer must have breaks faster than that no? I actually like the sound I got with 260 bpm but I'm going to use it with seperate hits on top.

Snares sequences his breaks in Renoise using the internal pattern effects such as Retrig (0exx) and Sample Offset (09xx)... This is why trackers are considered the best sequencers for junglist music these days.... great timing, and infinitely detailed sample control.
