Distorted Kick and bass synth mixing techniques

Postby midi_cheddar » Sat Feb 06, 2010 3:59 am

I have been producing breakcore and hardcore for a while now using Ableton Live and one problem I have come across frequently is my bass synth clashing with my distorted kick drum. Does anyone know of any production techniques to avoid this happening?

i find if you let a distorted bass drum go out of control it will basically take over a mix. in FL studio i basically take the "out" knob and crank til I feel I'm getting purely the attack of the drum and let synths do the rest of the work.

yeah use sidechain, it's quite easy with live, pick the native compressor, put it on your bassline track, then create a audio track for the kick, in the compressor, click on the arrow near the on/off switch, some new options will appear, enable the sidechain, choose the track with your kick in "audio from", compress & enjoy :)
