For those looking for notation materials.....
I recommend you start using tab programs such as power tab editor or guitar pro. In particular I recommend guitar pro, because you can find a full score of people that have written out the tabs to the songs you listen to. Often times I look for random material in the same genre, and if I find a drum pattern, guitar pattern, excerpt of music I like, I can manipulate the rhythms or note orders.
Just an idea for people who are strapped for ideas

So, just updating my thread: found a program
100% free Tux Guitar is the shit. If you can read a fretboard of a guitar (closer to you is higher, farther from you is lower) you can figure out notation very easily. Its awesome now that I can make something that's just totally unreal and plop it into my sequencer and let a plugin play with it rather than think "ok, drum part sounds like this.....shit, cant' figure the fucking thing out, time to just move on" etc. so check it out http://tuxguitar.herac.com.ar/ you'll be glad you did.
