knobs and sliders, what shall i start with?

Postby nethiros » Sun Dec 27, 2009 12:52 pm

after getting my launchpad i'm planning to compensate the lack of fx-control that neat device has by getting an additional midi controller with a bunch of knobs and faders and preferrably a modwheel or something...

but what shall i start with?
i dont want only knobs or only faders, also endless-led knobs would be awesome. i'd also love to be able to map it to every kind of plugin via ableton (or is ableton able to do that with every midi device?).

also it should be affordable/cheap. i'm looking for days now, and i'm having my doubts that such a device even exists so if anyone knows such a thing, please tell me where to buy or steal it! thanks in advance

Two bcr2000 one rotary one slider.
knobs and sliders up the ying yang and buttons to match (not pads but on off buttons that are mapable)
A little bulky but would get your job done.

well 2 of em would be still 300 euros X_x
if i found a way to map gamepads and other controllers to vst's i'd never spend a buck on midi controllers again!

anyway, those actually look pretty nice though a mixed version of both would be best. i'll keep an eye on them though

I like the UC33E
but idk if its effective or not.
The bcr2000 is cool too, so, difficult to decide.

.

korg and akai both make affordable controllers that will add the function you want.

http://www.korg.com/product.aspx?&pd=415

korg makes one that is only sliders and knobs and its less than $100, i think they are in the $50-$70 range.

we rocked out with the launchpad this weekend, i was using my x-session mixer to give me the knbos...that worked well...but now i just want the APC40

Are the nano ones good? They're cheap and evrything but I've heard they're not durable at all.

i've held the 3 nanokorgs in my hands when i bought the launchpad, and they really feel cheap. i was thinking about buying one (they were 20% off) but they simply felt... fragile and low-quality. like it literally screams in your face "I AM MADE IN CHINA"

novation nocturn has (technically) infinite amount of led knobs. no sliders, but it does have that awesome automap software. and its only like 70 quid or something
