DIY corssfader help

Postby dasoner » Tue Jan 27, 2009 10:42 pm

hello, id like to ask if anyone has ideas on how to make a diy crossfader with USB, to use it for controlling the dj program decks fader(instead of mouse), or some cheap solution on controlling the program via hardware.(unfortunatelly i cant easily afford even the standard hercules ones).

hi there,

i found a remote 25 midi usb controler for cheap. it has a xy touchpad which i assign to the crossfader when i use tracktor. its probally no good for scratching but other than that, its a good substitute for me.

also, tim exile uses a kaos pad 3 as a x-fader, i havent tried it yet but it looks a lot sexier than a standard x-fader...and you dont have to lubricate touchpads.

use a cheap gamepad with analog stick control. open it up and remove the spring(s) that center the stick controller. get some sort of HID-to-MIDI app to interface it to your dj program. probably run you about $15 for the controller if you don't already have one lying around

google "midi gamepad"

EDIT: you did!

use a circular saw to open the gamepad and remove the spring... or leave it alone and just use the directional pads to control the x-fader. but that might leave you with only 3 possible states to work with - left, right, center... depending on how your dj program lets you map. no smooth transitions to be had... but this is for breakcore right? fuck that smooth shit!!

If you use ableton, you can just map the fader to the left/right buttons and mix that way.

Ever used ableton? There are like 5+ different mixer settings for the fader alone. Before I had a midi I was using the left/right to control the fader when doing shit live dj mixes.
