kit vs computer?

ok, so i'm buying an electric drumkit from a mate, should be a lot of fun
but here's he deal, it's not a very good one, so do you guys think i'll get quality drums if i record it,
or will i be better off sampling and layering? (playing wont be a prob)

i guess it's about the samples and dynamics of the kit,
though i might be able to hook it to a midi drumkit on my computer
to use better samples if the the kit lacks them?

(im getting the kit eitherway, just wondering, t'would be sweet enough)
