I have done a lot of fooling around with renoise as far as playing live, nothing gig wise, mostly late night basement shit by myself with just renoise and my Axiom 25. While totally possible and at times pretty fun, I just don't feel like the interface was built for such control, gets mad clumsy when dealing with a lot of tracks and samples. I would love to see renoise become more of a live software, who knows.

actually what I am more interested in is finding out how you construct your live sets.I keep the melodies and basses of the tracks and I make break and gabba loops that I throw so as to make it more of a "live set",which means that still there is no real mixing,so there's every song with a start and an end instead of a huge mashup of all the set. Any more ideas about live sets?

I remember trying it when PEP first posted that, I was on Vista then and it didn't work, I'm on 7 now so I might try again. I have used my xbox pad in different ways, but the delay from controller to DAW really rendered it useless.

On an unrelated note; I have never pwned/used a midi controller, I want the most basic/usefull/cheapest one I can get; mainly for fun/practise, I've my eye on NanoKontrol, would that be a good place to start? or should I go for something more basic? Like a four track crossfader or something, my ignorant friends say I should get a KAOS pad, but as far as I'm concerned it doesn't do fuck all.

If I was to play live, (highly unlikely to EVER happen) I think I'd get my head around Ableton, cause I am an expert at making FL crash.

Fuck I'm Bored.

Bass guitar + Korg ES-1 + Korg EA-1 + circuit bent toys all go into a presonus firepod connected to a laptop running live + Midi controller (mkc461)
sometimes i jam, sometimes i just play bass over tracks which are bassless, sometimes i try to create things on the fly, combining live loops, ES-1. EA-1
kinda hard to do it by myself
if i wouldnt be playing bass at the same time would have been piece of cake ;D

i'm not sure yet, but i have at the moment:

-powerbook g4 (which sucks royally, no idea why everyone is using macs live)
-bass guitar + amp
-cables, cables, cables
-quite used dj'ing turntable

next week my new laptop will arrive, and i'm hoping to get hold of some gamecontrollers, maybe a ps2-dualshock since it's got the 2 awesome analog sticks. then the only thing missing would be a launchpad, a microphone and preferrably the ability to convince my bandmates to play breakcore-fuckery instead of hc-punk. probably play the bass through the mac into the windows-laptop with tons of fx added, add the microphone to it and trigger lotsa fucked up shit with the launchpad...

wait what would i need the gamepad for if i have the launchpad? except style of course... and why a bass? questions....

Laptop setup
Macbook pro with ableton lite linked up to 2 midikeyboards a korg nanokontrol
kaoss pad 3
Tascam 122 blabla, always forget the exact name.
Hardware setup
Alesis D4 & DM5 both linked to midikeyboards, korg pianomodule with nanokontrol , alesis HR 16
guitar pedals which I set up how ever I like it, (cheap behringer ones)
Kaoss pad 3 on the master out to the amp.
And ofcourse always take a block of 240v power inputs with you, since they always run short.
I also take a basic set of cables and plugs with me to be sure.
and the standard cables and adaptors needed for my gear.
Ill post some pics soon.

I tried doing Renoise live once [not in front of a bunch of people because I never tried it before], it wasn't too bad.

All I had was my laptop and a copy of Renoise though.

However, it is extremely clumsy to fiddle with your effects and stuff if you don't have some physical knobs to control stuff with.
