How do you perform live.

Postby arcaneparadox » Tue Jul 24, 2007 4:01 pm

I wanted to see what people use to play live or what they have seen live. Basically I am trying a multitude of setups and am wondering what every has seen that works, and even better what doesnt

i used to perform with a mammooth setup:
mpc200xl
rack with:
novaton bassstation
quasimidi technox
akai s950
alesis microverb 4
flutes, microphones
mixer.

now it is more simple:
mpc 4000
clavia micromodular
sometimes flutes and microphones
mixer.

i have 2 dell servers for storage and 8 sony vaios, plus various other computers/laptops. we typically use 3 laptops to jam 1 laptop (since it has the best INs) to record...the others just sit there. we will pull one out and run vocals thru it and put random vsts on them that dont need to be tied into the midi-time...such as dub siren.

fap* will have its first 'public' performance on Nov 18 at The Press Club in Sacramento...could possible be the one and only time we perform...we shall see. there will be video posted!

This is another thing I love about..well electronic music in general. Your not forced to play live a certain way, you can use laptops turntables...actual instruments, or what have you. I am still thinking of how infact I would play live seeing that I am stubborn and use hardware to produce most of my music and how I could incorporate that into playing live.

two of my friends use fl studio, you can use the number pad to do some manipulations to the music. but most of my friends use ableton. it auto sincs your breaks with little need for manipulation and runs most types of plugins. Download em both and decide what you like best.

Usually in secret, for free and in the dark...cannot reveal much else.

well, if i'm playing drums, a drumset.

if I'm jamming electronic music, typically I'm still dj'ing it at this point.

Cubase and a laptop.

Not an amazing setup, but it works =)

Would get a midi controller, but i just spent 500 quid on a new laptop =P

Chuck us a line if you find somewhere in southeast england i can get a decent one really cheap.
