Which midicontroller should i buy?

Postby MalariaLabs » Fri Jun 20, 2008 4:30 am

Ok so i just came across a lil bit of money and want to get cheap a midi controller for future live shows but i dont know very much about them since ive never used them. I use renoise to make music and i was planning to use virtualdj to preform. These are the choices i have in terms of budget:

M-Audio Keyrig 25

M-Audio X Session Pro

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=700423

M-Audio Oxygen 8

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=706310

Hercules DJ

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=801330

So which one is the best? I would probably like to control effects and cue ,fade blah blah blah. Is there any other controllers in the 100 dollar range?

I'd say the oxygen 8, I see a bunch of people using em also. I have the oxygen 49 and love it. The 8 is way more portable and has some nice knobs and such. I dunno how well it'd work with virtualdj, but it works REALLY nice with ableton.

What about the E-MU Xboard 49? I see em in youtube videos for "hip-hop" producers alot and their like as cheap as the production for a 50 Cent joint.
Also, I've been looking about and haven't read anything bad about them, and the craigslist in my area has one for a hundo.

I say go with an Axiom instead of an Oxygen in that department.

They cost a bit more, but from customer reviews, the Oxygens sound like crap construction-wise. Next controller I buy will either be an Axiom 25 or Axiom 49.

Oh yeah, holla!

All you need for a GH3 controller to work as a MIDI controller is a driver. Same goes for the Rock Band drums haha.

Can you IMAGINE the possibilities?! There aren't that many really, but it'd still be sweet. :D

Use a wiimote. I have yet to sit around and experiment doing it but I got my wiimote to work as a blutooth device. I had a friend who was using his iphone as a midi and another friend using the wii verison of guitar hero's controller as a midi also.

wiij timski

the guy's shows are pretty fun

anyway, virtual dj doesn't seem like a good choice to me, even traktor would be better, or obviously ableton..

as for the midi controllers, i'd say the cheaper ones are just as good, it's not about sound quality, just about fast responce so no need to pay hundreds of bucks

i'd go for the oxygen probably
