try adding some cut outs of wax paper under your slipmatts for some extra slip. It works pretty well instead of buying expensive scratch slip matts.

My guess is:

Your records are concave or "bowl shaped". One side will spin VERY easily and if you try to cue that side, your needle will jump very easily. Do a backspin and it will spin for a long time, even when the platter keeps going forward. The other side will seem to stick to the slipmat.

Not a whole lot you can do for this, but you can try wrapping it in a towel and putting a great deal of weight on it. But even that probably won't fix it all the way, as you'd really need to go beyond flattening it and actually bowl it out the other way for a time to counteract it's current shape.

It sucks, but even brand new records that have not been mistreated in any way can suffer from this. I've got some rare as hell records that you could just about eat cereal out of. Had two mint copies of Angel Of Theft that had this. :(

ok
so i dont think its concave
i tested all my vinyl
including four record that were just givin to me yesterday
they all do the same thing
stick on one side slide nicely on the other
and the side that slides nicely doesnt skip easily when cueing

its not a big deal since im beginnging but im gonna try the wax paper thing

thanks for all the help this forum is awesome

i think i figured out my problem
my platters are metal on top
i didnt realize this was odd till i went to a record store and noticed that the platters were metal with a plastic top
so now i think im gonna cut a thin piece of plexi glass and glue it in

SERIOUSLY ??????

Plexiglass? just buy/steal some thick felt material and cut it to the shape of your vinyl...

I've ditched the vinyl now as I'm using CDs and laptop, but the BEST TIP EVER for trouble free scratching is to remove the slipmat/felt pad/plexiglass and polish the metal platter with furniture polish before each gig.....awesome!

It did me proud on my Techgnics for over 20 years!!!!!
I'm 40 - mad for it - and still have some braincells left .... :) OLDS'KOOL :)
