Midi Controller for live Breakcore?

Postby obstreperosity » Wed Feb 13, 2008 9:16 pm

Are there any midi controllers that are particularly good for live breakcore? I have an Axiom, what could I do with that? Any tips, I'm totally new to this.

That depends. What software are you using for that live setup?Axioms pads can trigger clips in live,or you can use a little program Bome Midi Translator to interpret key/pad strokes as combo keyboard strokes, like Shift-Ctr-x etc ,so you can adapt for any host.Don't forget the knobs and sliders,as well as the on/off buttons, they can be mapped too to do triggers/sample starts etc.The same applies for any midi signal you send from axiom,be it keyboard notes ,pads, buttons or sliders/knobs.
Cheers

Try the New Akai MPK 49, that looks so smooth on every control.

Yeah, I've been checking out the MPK49, and I'm very impressed with what I see.

$400 is a little steep for me for a MIDI controller though, but it is pretty awesome...

USB gamepad is fun enough to mess around with X-Y Controller or plunder and sludgeon

since you have a controller already....just read the manual and assign fx triggers to do some weird stuff on the fly.

I love using a midi-keyboard and binding the keys to loops. Creates a very versatile live-setup.

I think that the Akai MPD24 or 32 are perfect stuff fot live Breakcore. I use it with live, one scene (drum + bass + sample + synth) on every pad and many effect and mix control with the faders and knobs. But you can make the same thing with a midi keybord but i think that the Akai pad are very ergonomic and you have 4 bank of pads (64 in total) and 3 bank of control (8 faders x 3, 8 knobs x3, 8 push bouton x 3).

With christmas and my b-day I will surely buy a Korg Zero4 for ultimate live configuration !!!

i'm looking at midi controllers too now, the axiom 25 looks like the most for the money, but the akai mpk and korg microkontrol and kontrol 49 also looks nice, but expensive. actually the novation remote zero sl, with or without keys looks awesome! i think im gonna go for an axiom for starters.
