haven't used dblue in ages so i can't remember what the stretch sounds like but I've been having luck with a vst called SLOPER...
its actually a granular/buffer effect ... I've got 2 in my live rack one with variable buffer size to midi cc and one with a set motion

Dblue stretch, stretch function in soundforge or renoise commands.
Dblue stretch also has a nice retrigger effect, do mind how you place your effects on each other because it will influence the sound of the dblue stretch etc.

I use ableton live's warp settings, you just halve the tempo of the sample you're stretching and set the warp mode to complex, tones or texture. works like a charm.
