Good gate VSTs?

Postby xTxRxAxVxIxSx » Fri Dec 12, 2008 11:01 pm

I need a VST (effect) that can set like a trance gate (one like PoiZone's would be nice, but one with more steps/options would be even better)

I'm just tiring of the limited options that PoiZone's gives, and I'm not about to gate shit by hand. :P

Any recommendations?

do you mean like a really hard, rate-controllable tremolo?

Pep, that's not what I'm looking for.

And @ rokhausen, I guess you could say it like that... Just a VST that will cut the signal to 0 or whatever I may want it on whatever beats. PoiZone's has 16 steps, which isn't enough to get really good variation - plus I'd like to have the option to 'gate' anything, not just PoiZone's sounds.

Wait mate, cant do like this?:

And what happened to just gating in piano roll...?

Does this even make sence?

Anyways, fuck gater tools, the gating from poizone can easily be created by cutting in piano roll, or killing a black person and taking the blame, lol, like my mother did, when she made surrender monkeys.

That first picture was an example of what I didn't want to have to do. :P But yeah, that'd do the trick.

The second picture doesn't *quite* cover it. Because you would still have the decay from those notes carrying on in the empty space between them.

reFX Vanguard has a better trance gate that can do 32-16-8 steps and stereo ping pong effects, but its the same as PoiZones in that it can only gate Vanguards sounds. I do have a VST that does what you want, but it sounds like ass so I dont recomment it. Im sure there are more out there though, let me take a look..

I Guess You Could (In Piano Roll) Place Slide Notes On The Same Note At The Rhythems You Want.
Then Turn The Velocity On Those Slide Notes All The Way Down.
I Have A Great Gater Tool But I'll Post That Later.

I used to do that a lot in the begining when i didnt use the slicer much, works ok, but tedious.

PEP What You Are Talking About Would Only Work Wiff Breaks Or Other Things With No Decay.
Any Synths With Decay Aren't Going To Gate Just By Shorting The Note Length. In The Long Run Gating Is The Only Sure Fire Way To That Gate Sound But You Probably Won't Find One Longer That 16 Beats.

Oh snap, I think I just found what I was looking for.

Camel Audio CamelSpace

*Rhythmic multi-effect, to add dynamic interest to pads, synths, drums and more.
*Powerful 128-step 'trance gate' controlling filter cut-off, pan and volume.
*Auto-panner, enhancer, flanger, multi-mode filter, stereo delay, reverb.
*Easy-to-use, with X/Y pad and intelligent Randomize.
*128 categorised presets.

Gonna try this out, looks pretty awesome.

Yeah, from just messing with that for like 5 minutes, I'm pretty impressed.

Does exactly what I need, plus a lot more. :)

i usually gate by hand, takes very little time in renoise (which i use to sequence my drums)
but occasionally i'll just use a very simple one, any will do, it's usualy possible to automate the parameters for variations
