French House

Postby V.E.G.A » Mon Apr 28, 2008 9:40 pm

Do you remember the period of 95-04? Ya know, The Average Mainstream Club Music that invaded the radio and you can finally say it was good or admit it was so-so? Yes, French House. What was it exactly?, just a musical style by Daft Punk?, or just the hipster house at the time. French House, or sometimes called Filter House, had some kind of sexy french touch to it. You can imagine it in your head from Stardust's "Music Sounds Better with you". Is it a smooth drum machine pattern mixed with a MS-20 filter on and off from chorus to build-up? Was it a repetive disco sample vocals over again and again with that same synth bass you hear all the time? Was French House Pop Vocal House with Guitars? It is almost like something people disgusing over what is breakcore, but you can never really describe it. Is French House really a style and not ethnicity?, Is it just Disco House?, Or is it the misunderstanding on todays trendy music from Justice onto the Ed Banger Record Label. What is the style?

When I think of French House, Always the Sound is uplifting, pop-like, same bass-synth, repeative sample, vocals, and that sexy filter. I have a couple of songs that are real french house, (Anti-Daft Punk).
That one anthem, "Bel Amour" by Bel Amour and "Gipsy" by Gipsy". That mainstream single "So I begin" by Galleon, "Lady (Hear me tonight)" by Modjo, others keep up into the light of mainstream pop. A Dj Gregory remix called "sunshine people" I heard, Material by Demon, some mixes by Ben Watt (sounds like tropical stuff), and "Deepest Blue" by Deepest Blue (maybe just has an infulence). Whatever could it be, sometimes you can find some real good tracks on dancerecords.com in the french section, but you will just end up with dirty south electro and disco remakes.

Is it real as a genre?, or a fad. Maybe it is all in my head and it is just house with disco samples, OR could it be just a iggnorant cult by Daft Punk? Hardcore as French Hardcore got its genre, really fast hardcore with quirky gabbers. I dont know, maybe I just like filters alot and have no air in this room.
